Truckee Toss 2

Birds were home shortly after 9:00. The Computer lost Internet Connection and could not post the birds to the website. We will try this afternoon when Steve gets home from the Doctor. I am home and The doctor said to stay away from computers and I will be just fine. Looks like we lost the Truckee #2 It was a perfect toss with 512 home in about 5 minutes. We try again tomorrow. Steve
Jul-27-2010 Today was another perfect toss from Truckee. At the release they have to fly up over Donner summit about 7000 ft. then down to Grass Valley. This 50 mile toss is one of the toughest as we work our way in to Nevada. Check out the video, their condition doesn't get any better. The plan was to take them back to Truckee tomorrow but I let them out for their afternoon flight at 5:00 and got hit by a Cooper Hawk at about 5:30 which kept them in the air until 7:30. So they flew about 3:45 min. today. Tomorrow we will loft fly them and go back to Truckee on Wed. Best Regards, Steve & Kim
Jul-25-2010 This moring we took a loft inventory. 521 on the web and 4 foreign in the clock. 525 total. We will do a hands on inventory to see who the 4 birds belong to.They have been traping in all week. Last weeks training could have not have been better. The birds leave the training trailer and fly stright towards home. They all arrive within 5 minuits of the frist bird. Some trap right away, others sit on the roof, others grit on the ground, others keep on flying. Next week I should have them 60 plus miles if they home right. Best Regards Steve
Jul-18-2010 This morning we had a training toss from Colfax, about 20 miles. I released the birds, they made one big circle and headed straight home. It took them about 20 min. to get home where Kim was waiting for them. She said they came in two large bunches about 1 min. apart. It was a perfect toss. The computer did not work so perfectly and did not post them. I'm working on that today. I have the birds in the clock, I hope to download them as soon as I find the problem. Even better news, is 24 of the 26 from the last toss returned yesterday. We are back to 524 birds in the loft. Tomorrow we will go to Blue Canyon, about 30 miles. Lets hope for another good toss. Best Regards, Steve
Jul-12-2010 Today we had our 2nd toss at about 7 miles. The release was perfect. One big long circle and they headed straight home. When I got home the birds were all here. The birds are getting high energy feed and they are not hungry in the morning, that is why it takes so long for them to trap in to the loft. I want them well fed with a lot of energy and don't expect them to trap fast right now. All birds arrived at the same time, no matter what the trapping order was. As the distance gets longer that will change. I will take them to the same 7 mile release spot tomorrow morning. Best Regards, Steve
Jul-11-2010

Today was our first 2010 Sierra Ranch Classic training toss.

It was about 3 miles. The birds were released at 7:30 am and they circled for about 5 min. That was a new experience for me. I have never had the birds do that before. The first toss is always an unknown. I left the release point and came home which took about 10 min. As I pulled up to the loft, there was a hugh flock of birds circleing. What a relief. I started calling them in. Some trapped right away and some kept flying. Then I checked the live trapping computer and saw that it had stopped clocking at 180 birds, however my clock was still working properly. I finally got all the birds in and checked the clock again. I released 538 pigeons and clocked in 538 pigeons. It doesn't get any better than that. The Pigeon Gods were with me on this Sunday. Tomorrow I will take them 7 miles and hope the live trapping will work.
Best Regards,
Steve

See you here 10-10-10!

Happy 4th of July !!!!!

The weather here is perfect. I'm now loading the pigeons in the training trailer before release. The birds are routing well and upon return they were in a long horizontal line, just the way I like to see them fly. One more week of this type of loft flying and we will start road training. Things are right on schedule. Again HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.

Best Regards,

Steve

Jul-01-2010 Today was the best loft flying day so far. I put all the birds out at 6:30 am through the loading shoot. It takes about 5 min. to get them all out. I walked outside and there wasn't a bird in sight for about 10 min. They are finaly starting to route. Now I will release them through the shoot in to the training trailer with all trailer doors open. This is a stressful time for the birds. After they have done this a few times they will be more relaxed and ready for road training. I am starting to control their feeding so they will trap well during the road training. Best Regards, Steve
Jun-17-2010 Yesterday we did inventory and I handled every bird. On the whole most birds handled very well and are in good health. We vacinated for Pox during inventory. The 9th and 10th flights are grown out a little over half way. The inventory is up to date. All birds have been out of the loft and settled. They will now be excersized daily. As soon as I have them routing I will begin road training, probably in July. Best Regards, Steve
